This Perm can be ridden with the eBrevet e_Brevet app . There might not be many eponymous Perms in the AUK rides lists, but this one goes Roamin' in the Peak to pass through the tiny hamlet of Wigley in the Peak District.

Following in the steps of those early Randonneurs, the Romans, this Perm starts from near the Castleshaw fort (Rigodunum) and calls in at Chesterfield (Nomenignotum), Rocester (Veratino) and Buxton (Aquae Arnemetiae).

The Perm heads south to Stalybridge and through Deep Cutting to Ardotalia (Melandra) in Dinting, then over the Snake Pass to Ladybower. From here, you follow the River Derwent through Hathersage to Curbar. There's a big climb here to get up Curbar Edge to reach Wigley, before dropping to Chesterfield and the first control.

The climbing starts again over Beeley Moor. There is a lot of 'sick' on the OS map in this part of the Peak District (where a sick seems to be the local name for a small stream). Crossing the River Derwent again at Darley Dale, you head towards Carsington Water (with a cafe in the visitor centre) and Ashbourne. The River Dove leads us to Rocester for the second control. You could sing 'I can't help falling in Dove with you'.

The joys of riding in the Peak District are Manifold. At Waterhouses you follow the Manifold Trail, a former railway track that was once described by one of its railway workers as starting in the middle of nowhere and ended in the same place. No wonder it was closed down well before the Beeching era. The Trail has a tarmac surface throughout as it rises steadily to Hulme End.

Buxton is reached via Longnor (cafe in the craft centre) and Brierlow Bar (cafe in the bookstore). There is a long drop to Whaley Bridge on Long Hill, then back to Saddleworth using a similar route as that used for the Torrs 100 Perm.

This Perm starts in Uppermill, Saddleworth. If you drive here, it's handy for M62 junction 22 and there is free all-day parking at the car park by the leisure centre. If arriving by train, Greenfield Station has connections to Manchester and Leeds. TransPennine Trains allow a limited number of bikes on trains which they insist must be pre-booked, a policy strictly observed.
